This is one of several artisan markets in Antigua Guatemala. This lack of tourists is seen throughout Central and South America. The livelihood of the indigenous people relies very heavily on the tourist market which has suffered significantly over the last few years.

 

The only way for them to be able to sustain their culture and lifestyle is to expand their markets. By teaching people from around the world about Mayan Astrology and their culture we hope to generate demand for the Sun Sign (Glyph) Pendants we currently offer. Please welcome Jose Manuel, his wife Lesbia Elizabeth, and their children Edwardo and Deyana to our family of artisans. 

Every day you can find Lesbia at their small stand in one of the local markets hoping to sell any of a variety of handicrafts. Jose spends most of his time when not working in his craft shop walking about town to meet and sell their products to tourists in the park and elsewhere. Life is not easy for them. The whole family is involved in their hand crafts. One minimum order from Mayan-Zodiac is equivalent to 1-2 month living expenses!

The other day I was talking with a wonderful Guatemalan lady who is a Day Reader and Mayan travel guide. When I asked what her Galactic Signature was I felt a hesitancy that wasn't there a moment before. I was about to learn a most interesting lesson about Mayan cultural sensitivity and history. Unlike most westerners who are very open about our astrological signs, many of the indigenous Guatemalans are quite secretive about their Sun Sign and Galactic Signature; especially to people outside their culture. Thankfully there is more openness today as more is discovered about their culture and as we in the West begin to understand the prediction for 2012, The End of Time, which does not predict doomsday, but a major shift in the World's energy. As some might say,"from the love of power to the power of love!"
